Sales Tracking Concept
Understand the role of Guru's sales tracking in identifying the source of purchases, how it records clicks, and how it organizes information to let you analyze the commercial performance of your campaigns.
- What is Guru Sales Tracking and what is it for?
Guru sales tracking allows you to follow the customer journey from clicking an ad to sale confirmation. With it, you identify the exact source of each purchase – campaigns on Meta Ads, Google Ads, email marketing, or other sources – and analyze the financial performance of each strategy.
In practice, the feature allows you to:
-
Map the sales source: know which channel, campaign, or ad variation generated each conversion;
-
Measure results accurately: view clicks, initiated checkouts, approved sales, and conversion rate;
-
Calculate ROI automatically: by matching revenue and costs imported from ad platforms, the system calculates metrics such as CPC and return on investment (ROI);
-
Support strategic decisions: identify which campaigns are generating profit and which need adjustments.
To use the feature, you need to create a Sales P.P.C.T. and use the tracked link in campaigns that direct traffic to your offer page. From there, the system starts recording and organizing data in sales reports.
How to create a Sales Tracking link in Guru?
To create a sales tracking link, in the Guru admin, access the side menu, click P.P.C.T. and then Sales. In the top right corner, click Add Tracking and enter the requested information to create the tracking link.
After adding your sales tracking link, if you wish to make changes, you can update, duplicate, hide, deactivate(1) and remove the P.P.C.T.(2).
(1) Deactivating a Sales P.P.C.T. stops the promotional URL from working and redirects to the configured URL will no longer occur - this option is recommended when the P.P.C.T. cannot be removed and you want to prevent new conversions through the link.
(2) Removing the P.P.C.T. is only allowed if the tracking link has not received its first click yet - in this case, the P.P.C.T. is permanently deleted and cannot be restored.
- How does sales tracking identify the source of a purchase?
Guru's P.P.C.T. system records the customer path from clicking a tracked link to payment confirmation, making it possible to identify the purchase source.
This process happens in stages:
-
Create a Sales P.P.C.T.: when setting up a Sales P.P.C.T., you define internally what the traffic source is (such as campaigns on Meta Ads, Google Ads, email marketing, or another source) and which product or page will be linked to it - when the visitor clicks this link, the system records the visit and associates that user with the configured source;
-
Detail the source (UTM Parameters): in addition to the main source, the link can contain UTM parameters that allow further detailing of the conversion, identifying which campaign, creative, or audience generated the sale - whenever the system detects different combinations of UTMs in the same tracking link, it automatically creates child tracking links, enabling segmented analysis in reports;
-
Record attribution at the time of purchase: when the customer completes payment, the system links the transaction to the tracking data captured at the click - if the flow is correctly configured, the sale will appear associated with the P.P.C.T. corresponding in the transaction details.
To properly identify the source of a sale, consider that the system records each stage independently, so the source of the sale may differ from the lead source. In addition, Guru also allows using self-attribution through a question configured at checkout (for example, “How did you hear about us?”).
If the sale does not occur from an active P.P.C.T. link or if there is a configuration failure, the system will not be able to associate a specific technical source, and the transaction will be displayed as untracked in reports.
- How to identify if the sale was actually tracked?
To confirm whether a sale was correctly tracked, verify that the transaction is linked to an active P.P.C.T. link and that the source data was recorded by the system.
This validation can be done from two main points available when accessing the Guru admin and, in the side menu, clicking P.P.C.T. and then Sales. In this section, you can:
-
Check the sales listing
In Sales P.P.C.T., access the Sales tab, locate the desired transaction, and check for the locator icon - it indicates that the transaction is linked to an active P.P.C.T. link (if the icon is not visible, the sale was not attributed to any tracking link); -
Check transaction details
Access the Sales tab in Sales P.P.C.T., click on the desired sale, and go to the Tracking tab - it should contain information such as the sale source and UTM parameters, and these data confirm that the system correctly captured and recorded the sale source (may contain UTM parameters data if it was configured in the P.P.C.T.).
If the sale does not occur from an active P.P.C.T. link or if there is a configuration failure, the system will not be able to associate a specific technical source. In this case, the “Tracking” tab will not be displayed, and the transaction will be classified as “No tracking” in reports.
- The P.P.C.T. is active, but not recording sales: what can prevent proper sale attribution and how to solve it?
Sale attribution can fail due to interruptions in link flows, configuration inconsistencies, or external limitations.
See the main scenarios and how to fix them:
|
Identified issue |
What happens |
How to solve |
|---|---|---|
|
Incorrect link flow |
The customer does not pass through all P.P.C.T.s (e.g., button leads directly to checkout), breaking the tracking chain |
Ensure that checkout access occurs exclusively through the P.P.C.T. link., preserving the tracking chain |
|
Use of external shorteners |
Link parameters may be removed or altered |
Always use the original P.P.C.T. link., without third-party shorteners |
|
Direct or organic sale |
The sale is recorded, but appears as “no tracking” |
Ensure all entry points use active P.P.C.T. links |
|
Zero credit balance |
New sales stop being counted in tracking |
Maintain an active credit balance in your Guru account - to keep your credit balance aligned with your business, check or change your plan |
|
Inactive or canceled subscription |
Statistics stop being recorded |
Keep the plan active and up to date |
|
Product mismatch between P.P.C.T.s |
The system cannot correctly cross-reference the data |
Configure all campaign P.P.C.T.s for the same product (using Global (Tracking) is recommended) |
|
Incorrect tracking field |
The sale occurs, but is not attributed to the link |
Select the field compatible with your payment method - if using Guru Checkout, it is recommended to select “src” * |
|
UTMs with spaces or special characters |
The system may not interpret the parameters correctly |
Use only simple characters, without spaces or accents (e.g., |
|
Malformed dynamic UTMs |
Failure in correlation between cost and sale |
Validate the pattern of UTMs generated by ad platforms before activating the campaign |
|
URL hiding by external platforms |
The sale is recorded without an associated source |
Check platform policies and prioritize formats that keep the URL visible |
(*) The src field is the native parameter recognized by checkout to capture the tracking code; using any other field will prevent identifying the sale source, causing the transaction to be recorded as “no tracking”.

Sales Tracking Management
Learn how to modify your sales tracking links, locate registered P.P.C.T.s, use filters, and keep your links updated as your traffic strategy evolves.
- How to filter Sales P.P.C.T.?
You can filter the Sales P.P.C.T. list to analyze specific tracking links. To do this, in the Guru admin, click the side menu, access P.P.C.T. and then select Sales. In the top right corner, click Filters.
You can refine the search by information such as code, P.P.C.T. name., status, and visibility in the list, for example. Using filters facilitates the analysis of specific scenarios, especially when there is a large volume of registered tracking links.
Access to check all filter options available in Sales P.P.C.T..
To remove applied filters and return to the full view, simply click the Clear Filters. button.
If you want to view hidden P.P.C.T.s, you can filter the results by visibility.
- How to export Sales P.P.C.T. data for external analysis?
To generate a spreadsheet with your Sales P.P.C.T. data, access the Guru admin and, in the side menu, click P.P.C.T. Then click on the option Sales.
Locate the XLS button in the top right corner of the screen and click it to start the export. The system will send a notification in the admin with the download link - to view it, click the notification icon at the top of the screen and, in the notification list, click Download to access the file.
The XLS file will be sent to your email in a few minutes.
You can only export one spreadsheet within a 30-minute interval. If you want to export a report with other information, wait for this period, apply the desired filter, and repeat the export steps.
Check the sales P.P.C.T. report to learn more about the fields displayed when exporting data.
- Can I use the "Global (Tracking)" product in Sales P.P.C.T.?
Yes. Using the “Global (Tracking)” product in Guru tracking links is the recommended practice to ensure data accuracy, guaranteeing that the entire journey is linked by the system.
Unified usage validates the configuration and ensures that cost imports and ROI calculation work correctly, linking the ad cost to the final conversion.
If you cannot find the Global (Tracking) product in the list of products available for association, you should create a new product with this name to use it specifically for tracking purposes.
- Is it possible to edit a Sales P.P.C.T. after it is created?
Yes, you can edit a Sales P.P.C.T. after creation, provided the tracking link has not received any clicks yet.
To do this, access the admin side menu and click on P.P.C.T.; then, select Sales. In the list, select the tracking link where you want to change the name and click on it to make the necessary adjustments in the configuration tabs.
After the first click, certain fields of the tracking link are locked for editing and it will not be possible to delete it. In these cases, if you wish to make changes, you can update, duplicate, hide, deactivate(1) and remove the P.P.C.T.(2).
(1) When deactivating a Sales P.P.C.T., the promotional URL stops working and no longer redirects to the configured URL - this option is recommended when it is not possible to remove the P.P.C.T. and you want to prevent new conversions through the link.
(2) Removing the P.P.C.T. is only allowed if the tracking link has not yet received its first click - in this case, the P.P.C.T. is permanently deleted and cannot be restored.
- Is it possible to reactivate a deactivated Sales P.P.C.T.?
Yes. An P.P.C.T. that has been deactivated can be reactivated at any time. It is important to consider that, by default, the admin list usually displays active tracking links only.
Therefore, if you cannot find the link, follow the step-by-step instructions to reactivate the desired P.P.C.T.:
-
Access Guru's admin and, in the side menu, click on P.P.C.T.; then click on Sales;
-
Access the filters in the upper right corner of the screen and filter by status to search for inactive P.P.C.T.s or all statuses;
-
Next, the deactivated tracking link will be displayed in the list;
-
On the desired tracking link, toggle the switch to the active (on) position, and save the change.
After reactivation, the promotional URL immediately starts working again and the system resumes recording clicks and conversions.
While the P.P.C.T. is deactivated, the promotional URL is unavailable and redirects stop working. Upon reactivating it, the link immediately works again and starts recording clicks and conversions.
Sales Tracking Parameters
Discover how to use UTMs and other parameters in sales links to deepen the analysis of results. Learn how to segment campaigns, creatives, and audiences, as well as understand how parameters influence reports and financial metrics.
- How to use UTM parameters in sales tracking links?
UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) parameters allow you to detail the origin of conversions, identifying which campaign, creative, channel, or email generated the sale. In Guru, the correct use of UTMs enables advanced segmentation of results, automatic creation of child-tracking links, and detailed ROI analysis.
To do this, you must include the following UTM tags at the end of the P.P.C.T. promotional link:
-
utm_campaign: identifies the campaign name; -
utm_medium: indicates the medium used - for example, email; -
utm_content: differentiates creatives or content variations (e.g., video01, blue_banner); -
utm_term: identifies terms or keywords.
These parameters allow reports to group clicks, sales, and ROI by variation.
How does automatic segmentation work?
It is not necessary to create a different P.P.C.T. for each ad variation. By using different UTM combinations on the same Promotional URL, Guru automatically creates child-tracking links linked to the main tracking link. This allows analyzing clicks, leads, and costs per creative, campaign, or variation, maintaining the organization of tracking.
See how to structure the opt-in link and check the best practices for using UTMs to ensure proper tracking functionality.
After driving traffic with UTMs, you can analyze the data in the Sales P.P.C.T. Dashboards and in the sale details (Tracking tab). Additionally, when exporting the sales report, UTM columns are included in the spreadsheet.
Recommended best practices
To keep reports clean, organized, and with accurate financial attribution, use simple values, avoid spaces and special characters, and standardize naming conventions.
By properly structuring dynamic variables, you keep data intelligence intact and facilitate strategic analysis of tracked data.
Check out all best practice recommendations for using UTM parameters in Guru.
- How do parameters influence sales reports?
Tracking parameters (UTMs) directly influence the identification, grouping, and breakdown of sales sources displayed in reports and Sales P.P.C.T. dashboards.
They transform generic link tracking into a deep analysis, by:
-
Detailing the origin: adding parameters such as
utm_campaign,utm_medium,utm_content, andutm_termto P.P.C.T. links. allows reports to accurately track the user journey - this identifies not only the source platform, but the linked campaign, channel, and even the specific ad creative that generated the sale; -
Creating sub-trackings: for each new combination of UTMs detected in a link, Guru automatically generates a "child-tracking link" - you can view the global performance of a campaign and, at the same time, analyze results in a fragmented way by ad groups, emails in a sequence, or specific articles;
-
Segmentation through advanced filters: parameters feed the dashboard filter system - you can segment data from the opt-in funnel and statistics by applying filters for
utm_campaign,utm_mediumorutm_contentspecifically, isolating the exact traffic segment you want to analyze; -
Financial metrics and auditing: in the UTMs section in the Sales P.P.C.T. Funnel, the report displays detailed performance by parameter - this means you can see the exact numbers tied to each ad variation and audit the exact source of transactions.
The use of parameters enriches Sales P.P.C.T. reports, providing the data needed to compare the effectiveness of different actions, optimize investments, and identify the most profitable marketing strategies.

Sales Attribution
Understand how Guru determines the origin of each sale. Learn the attribution rules, behavior in cases of multiple clicks, and how the system consolidates data to ensure consistency in reports.
- If the customer clicks on two different ads, which sale will be attributed?
If a customer clicks on two different ads, attribution in Sales P.P.C.T. will be made to the last clicked ad. Guru uses the last-click attribution model, meaning the conversion is linked to the tracking link accessed by the customer at the time of completing the order.
However, the system records the journey complementarily to allow a more complete analysis:
-
The sale origin (last click) identifies the traffic source responsible for completing the purchase (bottom of funnel) - if the customer clicked on Ad A yesterday, but accessed Ad B today and made the purchase, the sale will be attributed to Ad B;
-
the lead origin (first click) preserves the channel information that brought the customer for the first time (top of funnel) - even if the sale was attributed to Ad B, the lead origin will continue to indicate Ad A.
For example
When a lead is captured via an ad on Meta Ads and converts days later through an email marketing link, financial attribution will be directed to the channel that effectively closed the sale, without losing the record of the initial contact source.
In sales with affiliates under the referral model, attribution follows the last-click rule: if the visitor clicks on more than one affiliate link before purchasing, the commission will be attributed to the last link accessed.
Data on sale origins and lead tracking are analyzed in the Sales P.P.C.T. Dashboards. Access and learn more about the difference between origins and tracking.
- Does Guru consider the first or last click in sales attribution?
Guru's system tracks and differentiates both moments in the customer journey, from first to last click, so you can visualize both acquisition and final conversion.
See below how each criterion is considered in the system:

For acquisition and LTV analysis, the system preserves first-click data, meaning who initiated the relationship; for direct ROI and conversion performance analysis, the system considers the last click, meaning the link that led the customer to checkout at the time of purchase.
- Can I export data from the Sales Tracking Funnel?
When accessing the Funnel section of Sales P.P.C.T., you can view data for the opt-in funnel, statistics of performance indicators, sales by period (hour and days of the week), approval by payment method, as well as the list of products and UTMs.
To do this, access Guru's admin and, in the side menu, click on P.P.C.T. and then Sales; select the desired tracking link and access the Funnel tab.
It is possible to export spreadsheets for products and UTMs, which is useful for conducting detailed performance analyses, monitoring by traffic origin, and consolidating information in external reports.
