Best Practices in Product and Offer Creation

You must organize products and offers in Guru according to each catalog item, variants, sales strategy, and pricing.

The way you organize your products and offers affects how order data is sent for invoice issuance and/or e-commerce platform due to the link between the product in Guru and the product on the other platform.

The correct configuration of products and offers ensures the correct synchronization of orders with the billing platform (invoice) and/or e-commerce platform.

New Product or New Offer?

To decide whether you should add a new product or a new offer, just follow the 2 rules below:

Rule #1: each catalog item, as well as its variants, must be registered as a different product - with a unique identification code.

Rule #2: each sales or pricing strategy1 of the product must be registered as a new offer.

1 Think of pricing as different price tags or payment conditions for the same product.

Variants are different options of the same item in your catalog, such as a backpack that can have different sizes and colors.

Sales strategies are techniques you can apply to captivate the consumer and increase product sales, such as promotional actions, discount campaigns, and differentiated prices.

According to your scenario, you may need to register several products and each product must contain one or more offers.

For example, if you sell:

  • Subscription plans, you must register each plan as a product different.

  • Digital product such as an online course XYZ. If it's a one-time charge, you must register a single product. If it's a recurring charge, we recommend register each plan as a different product - as in the first example.

  • Physical product with variations such as a Backpack (black, blue, green), you must register each variant as a different product.

  • Physical product without variation such as a vitamin supplement, you must register a single product.

You must add at least one offer for each product.

After registering the products, it may be necessary to update the price or apply different sales strategies. Therefore, just add a new offer to the product if you intend to present:

  • Promotion or Special Condition such as a discounted value, differentiated payment conditions or methods without the customer having to inform a discount coupon.

  • Product kits containing multiple units such as the vitamin supplement that can have 3 options for the customer to choose from (1, 3 or 5 units).

  • Price in another currency1 to serve customers from other countries, accepting local payment methods.

1 Consult payment processors with multi-currency support.

Subscription plans

If you sell different subscription plans (e.g., monthly, semi-annual, and annual), you must register each plan as a different product, with at least one offer linked to each product.

If you need to update the price of the plans, launch a promotional campaign, or sell in another currency, just add new offers for each existing product. When an offer is added, a new checkout link is made available.

See this example showing the correct configuration of each plan available in two different currencies (Brazilian real and dollars):

Digital product

If you sell online courses or training with a one-time charge, you must register each course/training as a different product, with at least one offer linked to each product.

If you want to launch a promotional campaign or sell in another currency, just add a new offer to the product. When an offer is added, a new checkout link is made available.

See this example showing the correct configuration of Training XYZ with 2 different prices (base price and promotional) for the same currency:

If you wish to make a recurring charge for a digital product, we recommend register each plan as a different product - see subscription plans.

Physical product with variations

If you sell a physical product with multiple variations such as a Backpack (black, blue, or green), you must register each variant as a different product, with at least one offer linked to each product.

If you want to launch a promotional campaign or offer product kits, just add a new offer to the existing product. When an offer is added, a new checkout link is made available.

See this example showing the correct configuration of the Backpack and its variants with quantity at the customer's choice (1 unit or 2 units):

Physical product without variation

If you sell a physical product like a vitamin supplement, you must register a single product, with at least one offer linked to it.

If you want to offer product kits, just add a new offer to the existing product. When an offer is added, a new checkout link is made available.

See this example showing the correct configuration of the vitamin supplement and the available kit options (1, 3 or 5 units):
